Frequently Asked Questions
1. How did my Mutual Fund end up on the Lemon List?
To create this list, I looked at all the stock funds on the market today and compared them to their appropriate benchmarks. If they had underperformed their benchmark for the past year, three years and five years, they went on the list. These funds have clearly underperformed during a long period of time.
2. How much money do investors have in Mutual Fund Lemons?
Investors have a staggering $850 billion in these underperforming funds. With more than 1,400 funds on the list, an exasperating 1 in 4 funds are costing investors billions of dollars. That means if you own 10 funds, there is a good chance that 2 or 3 of them are on this list.
3. How do I use the search function on the website?
There are several ways that you can use the search tool on the website. You can click on a letter of the alphabet and any fund starting with that letter will appear.
You can search for a fund family by typing the name in the search box (i.e. Fidelity would give you all the Fidelity funds on the list.
You can search by the ticker symbol of your mutual fund.
You can also search by keyword (i.e. if you want all the funds with the name Growth in them).
4. Are there any other cool features on the website?
By placing your mouse over the far left hand column, all the data for that fund will appear in a pop-up box. Also, you can sort the data by any column by clicking on that column's header.
5. How often is the Lemon List updated?
We update the list every quarter.
